Movement is great for baby development. When babies are born, their brains are full of lots of higgledy-piggledy neurons, rather like B roads. These need to be thickened into super fast highways so that their brain functions more efficiently. Any kind of movement is great for this, add music too and the process is accelerated.
By taking part in certain movements such as rolling, crawling, pushing, pulling and spinning, the neurons in the brain make important connections which have an impact on future learning skills such as visual perception (reading), aural perception and emotional and social skills.
Babies and toddlers are moving all the time they are playing but a focused session such as this can help them really engage with their bodies and their movement.
Between 2 and 6 months of age neurons in the brain used for recognising faces, are at their most active and receptive and babies begin to understand expressions and faces. It is important at this age that they receive lots of face to face contact. This is the start of self esteem, as they begin to understand that they are lovely and loved and other people want to spend time with them.
The Baby Movers sessions aim to give you time for this kind of closeness and bonding and develop good attachments with parents and other care givers.
